Hey E-News Friends,
I’ll bet every one of you can point to a pivotal moment or season in your life when you were desperate for trusted advice. I can remember having many of those moments back in my college days. Maybe you can relate. The go to person for me during those days was always my father. Dad was like my GPS for practical advice for how to navigate life at a point in my life when I had begun to make many of my own decisions. He was the forerunner to TomTom or Garman. I can’t tell you how many nights I went down to the phone booth on the first floor of Patterson Hall, at crazy hours of the night mind you, and dialed that beloved 11 digit phone number that connected me to trusted, life-tested wise counsel. I always felt so much better, so much more at peace and so much clearer about the direction I needed to take after getting off the phone with my dad.
This weekend as we continue our series on The Apostles’ Creed, we’re going to be learning about the ultimate Counselor, the Holy Spirit. The great thing about the Holy Spirit is we don’t have to dial a phone number or search the internet to obtain His advice because the Scriptures tell us that He lives within each of us as followers of Christ. As such, His trusted and guiding presence is something that we have access to at all times. Brian is going to be talking about how we can be more attuned to His ever abiding presence and guidance when we faced with making challenging, potentially life altering, decisions. That’s why Jesus said to His disciples in John 16 , “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.” If you’re feeling like you staring down some pretty tough decisions days or simply want to learn how to be more sensitive the God’s direction in your everyday life, this weekend is for you. I hope to see you there.
On a totally different note, this past week was one of those weeks when there were multiple challenging and heart breaking things that some folks from our congregation dealt with. I tell you that to encourage and remind you to pray for people in our church who are hurting and grieving and to remember that the hope that we have in Jesus Christ makes all the difference in the world.
Have a great day as you continue to fix your eyes on Jesus.
Bill
