Changing gears...

Roger I’m sitting in my kitchen, watching a Blue Jay hop from one bird feeder to another, trying to figure out which one has the tastiest food.  Two little red squirrels who have both climbed onto one of them are raising quite the scrappy little fight as they vie for “king of the feeder.”  It is summer…

Driving past Country Fair up to WalMart, my eye is caught by the temporary produce stand erected each year by Mason Farms.  I am drawn to the promise of fresh, ripe, succulent fruit and vegetables…knowing that I will be pilfering the bags on the way home and enjoying the flavors of the season.  It is summer…

The quiet of a lake that was snow covered not all that long ago has given way to the buzz of boats and jet ski activity and the laughter of friends enjoying a sunny day on the water as they soak up the warmth of the sun.  It is summer…

These scenes make up the fabric of the season that we all love and look forward to throughout the other three seasons.  We want to simply relax in these scenes – soaking in the pleasures of the fleeting days while school is out, vacations are had and memories are made.

We all need this time away from the routine of our lives…the pleasant moments of peace, recreation, and reflection.  Without them we will find it much more difficult to cope with life and the variety of pressures that are always there.  So take time this summer to hear the Blue Jay, watch the squirrels, ride the jet ski….and by all means…stop at that roadside produce stand.  Change gears...and take advantage of all that this wonderful season has to offer.

And while you’re at it, be sure to thank your Creator for making these pleasures for you to enjoy.

Have a wonderful, and blessed, summer!
