The McLane Men's Prayer Group is a hardy bunch of guys who enjoy beating the sunrise to get to church each Wednesday morning (6:00 a.m.!!) for a time of fellowship, hot coffee, and prayer.
The meeting starts off with the men trickling in anytime from about 5:50 a.m. -- their first stop being at the coffee maker (wonderfully prepared by John Gersims) -- before grabbing a seat and catching up with each other during our gathering time. A devotion is shared by one of the guys - they take turns bringing one each week - and then there is some discussion around the table about the devotion's message.
The meat and potatoes of the gathering kicks in as Roger Scarlett shares the prayer concerns for the church, which are provided by Bill Cox. Recent prayer concerns have included the Union City and CIAB sites which are both looking for a new, larger and more permanent location to hold services; for Brian Kelly's sabbatical and his reentry into ministry in January; for the safe and successful installation of the HVAC unit on the roof; for the Bag Project and its message of God's love for people; for those who are being challenged by the tough economy at the present time; etc. After the prayer concerns are shared, the gang breaks off into groups of three or four men, and everyone participates in praying over these needs.
That's about it...no breakfast or anything else is involved...just a quick gathering of guys to petition our Lord for His guidance and blessing on our ministry at McLane. The group starts at 6 and is usually finished by about 6:40 a.m. and then it's off to work or school.
We have guys in this group from 12 years old (seriously! Check the pictures...) on up and into their 70's. Any guy who wants to come out to pray with us is more than welcome. We'll have the doors open and the coffee fresh and hot for you!
