Write it down...and then what? -- Part II

writeitdown2Part II (continued from yesterday's blog) As I began to WRITE DOWN those things I was facing and how I was doing, God brought a story to my mind out of 2 Kings 19.

Here’s the setting:  Hezekiah was the king of Judah.  He was a good king and tried to do the right thing.  He was threatened by another king…a more powerful king with a ruthless reputation.  This king, the king of Assyria, was coming to attack Hezekiah…and Hezekiah couldn’t do a thing about it.  The Assyrian king wrote out his threats and sent them to Hezekiah in preparation for the attack on Judah.

Here’s the scripture that spoke to me: 2 Kings 19:14 - After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers (the Assyrians) and read it, he went up to the Lord’s Temple and spread it out before the Lord.

What I love about this story is that King Hezekiah’s FIRST reaction was bring this news and lay it before God.

This really stuck with me!   Hezekiah literally took the bad news that he was holding and placed it before God.

What I admire about this action…was the absence of hesitation or worry…there were no stops along the way as he brought this letter before God.  Hezekiah then trusted his problems to God’s providence.

As I was facing circumstances outside of my control, I decided emulate this story— to write out what was feeling and the situations I was facing… and then spread them before God.  Those things that I was writing turned into prayer requests that I then gave God…requests that I know God can handle far better than I.

Maybe today, as you WRITE IT DOWN, take the second step and give it away.  Spread out those emotions of the heart, your feelings, the circumstances you face before God as a way of saying, “God, you can handle these far better than I.”  And He will handle them.

He’s promised to!  — 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT) says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

There is power in writing things down.  There is permanence.  There is release.  Then, when you give these things over to the ONE who authored your life, the ONE who knows the circumstances you face better than you do…and who holds all the power in the entire universe to do all things…in doing that, there is peace.

Praying you experience that peace today.
