Tis the season to make new years resolutions!
It seems like this time of year, the world is a buzz with the changes they want to make in this coming year! This is a GREAT thing...but I propose that we add a layer to our "resolut-ing."
We've all tried to make resolutions and failed...which can be quite discouraging. (Especially on day 2 of the new year...haha!) And although our failure can feel defeating, when examined closely, it points to the hole in our resolution strategy...accountability!
Thinking of a resolution is the easy part. Starting your resolution takes a little more effort. Following through with your resolution is where TRUE LASTING CHANGE is promoted...and this can only be done by creating a structure of accountability. This is the most difficult part...but this is where the rubber meets the road in resolutions!
If you've resolved to be, do, or become something different this year...what is your plan to finish the year strong?
If your resolution allows it, I'd encourage you to invite someone on your journey of change alongside of you. If your resolution is of a different nature, you set up periodic reminders, checkpoints or short-term goals to encourage finishing the year strong in your resolution! You CAN do it!
I think that this season is most conducive for self-examination...and CHANGE. Let's not miss the opportunity to become more of the people God created us to be...while doing it with a PLAN to succeed and people to encourage us in our journey!
Luke 14:28-30 - MSG translation - “Is there anyone here who, planning to build a new house, doesn’t first sit down and figure the cost so you’ll know if you can complete it? If you only get the foundation laid and then run out of money, you’re going to look pretty foolish. Everyone passing by will poke fun at you: ‘He started something he couldn’t finish.’
