This weekend, I had the great opportunity to preach a sermon called, God Initiates, We Respond. We heard an amazing story, right out of our church, of God's initiating a great series of events and a person responding to them!
God uses normal people for extraordinary things. When we respond to his initiations, we get to be a part of His blessing!
This is so clearly seen in the Christmas story! Take a second to think of how God showed up in Mary's life...and then in Joseph's life...and then again in the lives of the shepherds keeping watch on Christmas Eve! God breaks through normal-life circumstances in extraordinary ways!
Now, here's the great thing! This is not unique to Christmas...but it is UNIQUE TO GOD!
All throughout scriptures, we see God being an initiator. Think of the first 4 words of the Bible, "In the beginning, God...!" He starts all, finishes all and knows all. Moses was following sheep when God called his name and revealed himself to this unsuspecting Shepherd! Even in the story of Jesus, God initiates the great redemption of the world!
God is an initiator...and I've come to believe that this is one of his most awesome traits!
However, in light of this, it's our job to respond...or not to.
Do you recognize evidences of "God initiations" all around you?
If so, I'd love to hear about it! Even more so, I'd love to know what happened as you responded. Comment on this blog post or tweet a "God initiation" you see with the hastag #FourTold!
Let's never forget that as we respond to God's initiations toward us, he makes us a part of the blessing and continues His wonderful process inside of us!
