What do you see when you walk into a hospital?

HealthSince Thanksgiving Day, my just about each member of my family has seen a doctor, spent time in the hospital or visited an Emergency Room...and numerous times in some cases!  It’s been quite the season. A number of these times, we’ve found ourselves in a Children’s Hospital in a nearby city. It seems that each time we travel to this hospital, I’m met with conflicting internal feelings.

You see, at this hospital in particular, children from all across the country (and world in some cases) are there to seek help for horrible ailments and severe accidents.  You can walk through the halls and clearly see in realtime 3D just how broken and unfair this world can be.

However, here’s where my conflict comes in.  This hospital is one of the greatest children’s hospitals in the country...which is why it sees such severity in cases.   What I’ve come to realize is that a hospital like this is the BEST place for a child to come and get taken care of!  If there is any place properly equipped to help restore health, it is here!

Here lies a tension between two perspectives.  One can choose to see the sickness, dysfunction and unfair-ness of life...or see the hope and blessing of being in the most adequate facility available equipped to heal and restore!

This is just like in the case of everyday life.  As with each sickness, dysfunction and life-unfairness we face daily, we have a choice in perspectives.  We can choose to see our maladies...or see God’s unlimited power and potential to fix and renew!

Revelation 21:5 - And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!”

2 Corinthians 5:17 - This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

And just like walking through the children’s hospital, as we walk through life we can focus on what’s broken...or we can remember that in all things (and ESPECIALLY in what’s broken), there’s no better place to be...but in the hands of an all knowing, all loving, all powerful and all good God.  And we can go there anytime.

We believe in the God who “makes all things new.”  We believe in the ONLY One equipped to heal a broken soul, restore perfect health (mind, body, soul, spirit), make good from bad circumstances, bring about justice, and raise life out of death.  I’ll say it again, we can choose to see our maladies...or see His unlimited potential to fix and renew!

Know that whatever you face today, or how unfair life may seem at times, we have a healer.  He is not only a healer, He’s the best healer that ever was.  He not only made you...he also knows how to put all things back together!  He knows how things work best...because He created them.  He also knows what we truly need because He can see the future and has the power to work all things out for good.

At any time, at any moment, we can visit him...and better yet, He comes to US!  He makes house calls :)

God, that makes my soul sing today!  Sunday at McLane Erie, Pastor Brian will make a case out of the book of Galatians how we can “live free from unrealistic expectations from others and ourselves.” We can live free from insecurity and anxiety!  If you’ve struggled with either of these two (or both), then this weekend’s for you!

Hope to see you Sunday @ 11AM or 5PM...there will be no better place for you to be than at Forward Hall this weekend!
