A picture is worth 1,000 words right? As our family walked around Presque Isle last night, we saw this gentleman “standing” in the middle of the bay waving giant sticks at the sky. We had to stop and take a second look…
As you can imagine, this sight generated some significant attention. As people started to notice him and his peculiar actions, they would stop and try to process what he was doing…just as we were trying to do.
Here’s the great part about all of this. A sight this incredible demands that you stop and notice it. You can’t just give it a second of your attention to grasp it in its entirety…you have to focus on it for a bit to really figure out what is going on.
This mirrors what we’ve been learning about the Bible in our "40 Days in the Word" campaign this week…that scripture demands that we stop and stare it at for bit. We cannot just give it a passing glance…but we must look deep, meditate and process what’s really going on in the scriptures to grasp what they’re saying to us. When we breeze through it, scripture can seem as strange as a guy standing on the water…waving his wands at the sky.
When we stop and really process what scripture is saying, we discover that there is far more there then what we saw at first glance. It becomes life, and beauty, and hope and healing…it is the very words of the Almighty God spoken to you and I!
I love that we’re looking deeper together!
In case your curiosity is still getting to you… the man in the picture above was standing on a surf-type board, blowing bubbles. He would use his wands to create giant bubbles that would then land on the water around him and float with him for a moment.
It was one of the most beautiful and peaceful things I’ve ever witnessed. He had quite the audience, with everyone stopping to enjoy his creation.
This week, I hope you’ve been able to slow down, take notice and enjoying all that God’s word is speaking to you.
Colossians 3:16a says, “Let the word of God dwell in you richly…”
Hope to see you Sunday as we dive deeper into the Bible together!
